Olive & Oak Scrapbook Papers
There is something magical and romantic about the Italian countryside, although personally I’ve only experienced it through the movies I’ve watched. Old stone villas tucked among rolling hills, rows of grapevines disappearing into the distance, weathered wine barrels and olive trees that look as though they have been growing in the same spot for generations. Olive & Oak was inspired by that softer, timeworn side of Tuscany (and the movie Under the Tuscan Sun is one of my favories).
This collection of free digital scrapbook papers brings together warm wine reds, rustic olive greens, faded cream and weathered wood tones with grapes, vineyards, olive branches, old stone walls and vintage Italian details. The papers have an aged, slightly distressed character that gives them the feeling of something discovered rather than something brand new.
Some designs tell more of a story, while others are intentionally quiet and simple. Together, they create a small collection made for mixing, layering and using in all kinds of digital projects.
Inspired by the Tuscan Countryside
Olive & Oak began with a simple pairing of two natural elements: olives and oak. From there, my imagination wandered straight to Italy.
Olive branches became groves surrounding old villas and, naturally, olives pressed into rich Italian olive oil. Oak brought to mind the wooden barrels used to age wine. Add vineyards heavy with grapes, old wooden crates, stone walls and a few vintage details, and the collection began to take on a life of its own.
The result is a set of Tuscan-inspired digital scrapbook papers that feels warm, rustic and romantic without becoming overly formal. You'll find scenes reminiscent of an Italian vineyard alongside faded botanical elements, wine-inspired backgrounds and beautifully worn solid papers.
Grapes, Olives and Old Stone
Several of the Olive & Oak papers feature the details that give the collection its personality.
Large clusters of grapes spill from leafy vines against faded stone and plaster. Olive branches soften creamy backgrounds. Old wine barrels, wooden crates and vintage touches add warmth and character, while distant vineyards and Italian countryside scenes bring a sense of place.
Look closely and you'll find plenty of smaller details tucked into the designs as well. Faded lettering, worn surfaces, scratches, stamps and softly aged textures help create the feeling of old papers and keepsakes gathered during a long-ago journey through Tuscany.
The color palette ties everything together with deep burgundy wine red, muted olive and sage green, warm cream, soft brown and aged parchment tones.
Rustic Papers for Digital Creating
Not every scrapbook paper needs to be busy. Olive & Oak includes rustic solid and lightly patterned backgrounds designed to coordinate with the more detailed papers.
The distressed olive green and wine-red papers are especially useful when you want the colors of the collection without competing with photographs, journaling or embellishments. Scratches, fading and variations in color give them more character than a completely flat solid while keeping them versatile.
These quieter papers can also work beautifully as backgrounds for digital journal pages, photo books, memory pages, cards, invitations and other creative digital projects.
You don't have to be creating something specifically about Italy or wine, either. The neutral cream, weathered brown and muted green papers can easily move into autumn projects, heritage pages, family-history layouts, travel albums or anything that could use a little rustic warmth.
A Little Taste of Italy
Although Olive & Oak was inspired by Tuscany, I didn't want the collection to feel like a stack of travel postcards. Instead, I wanted it to capture the mood of the Italian countryside - the warmth of old stone, the richness of a vineyard, the faded green of olive leaves and the wonderful imperfections of things that have weathered beautifully over time.
That makes these papers fun to mix in unexpected ways.
Pair one of the vineyard designs with a quiet cream background for a travel page. Use the wine-red paper behind old family photographs. Combine faded olive branches with handwritten journaling for a digital memory book, or use one of the rustic backgrounds to create a card that has absolutely nothing to do with Tuscany.
That's part of the fun of digital paper. The design may begin with one story, but what you create with it can tell an entirely different one.

Olive & Oak is a small collection, but I think that suits it. Each paper brings a different piece of the Tuscan countryside into the mix. Pour yourself an imaginary glass of wine, wander through the vineyard and see what inspires you.
